Mutation Values

Storage Hunters: Open World mutation values and multipliers.

Use this Storage Hunters: Open World mutations guide to check confirmed multiplier values, event sources, Time Capsule chances, Limited Passive values, Museum effects and calculator notes before pricing a mutated item.

Quick Read

How mutations affect Storage Hunters item value

A mutation changes the multiplier side of the Storage Hunters: Open World value formula. For players, the practical question is simple: is the item worth hauling, selling, or checking again in the calculator? Start with the item base value, add the confirmed mutation multiplier, then account for condition and grade.

Best for quick checks

Standard mutations such as Gold, Diamond, Void, Secret and Rainbow are the fastest values to compare when an auction item looks unusually expensive.

Watch event-only effects

Rain, Moonlit, Acid Rain, Sandstorm and Alien Invasion mutations come from their matching event windows. Variable or pending multipliers remain reference-only.

Separate special rolls

Washing, Time Capsule, Limited Passive and Museum mutations are separated because their sources and effects differ from normal auction mutation checks.

Standard Mutations

Standard mutations are the main value effects players compare during auctions and shop checks. Use these multipliers when an item already shows a confirmed mutation and you want to estimate its sell value.

Event Mutations

Event mutations are only obtainable while their event is active. Event mutation chances can be boosted with Luck Drinks, but the mutation still needs to come from the matching event window. Only mutations with confirmed fixed multipliers are available in the calculator; variable and pending entries remain reference-only.

Moonlit Event

The Moonlit Event lasts 4 minutes.

MutationMultiplierChance
Moonlit1.5x4%
Firefly5x0.1%

Rain Event

The Rain Event lasts 8 minutes.

MutationMultiplierChance
Wet1.4x4.5%
Shocked6x0.29%

Acid Rain Event

The Acid Rain Event shares the Wet and Shocked mutation pool with the standard Rain Event. Acid and Caustic are exclusive to Acid Rain and use variable multipliers that depend on the item's base price.

MutationMultiplierChance
Wet1.4x4.5%
Shocked6x0.29%
AcidVariable (6.6x+ observed)10%
CausticVariable (~30x-110x observed)0.5%

Sandstorm Event

The Sandstorm Event produces the 12.5x Dune and 2.25x Sandy mutations.

MutationMultiplierChance
Dune12.5x0.2%
Sandy2.25x3.5%

Alien Invasion Event

The Alien Invasion Event produces Probed, Abducted and Extraterrestrial mutations during the limited event.

MutationMultiplierChance
Probed4x4.5%
Abducted10x1%
Extraterrestrial25x0.25%

Washing Mutations

Items can only be washed if they have the Dirty mutation. Washing always removes Dirty, can only be done once per item, and may replace it with Pure or Spotless. An item can also come out clean without receiving either washing mutation.

MutationMultiplier
Pure1.875x
Spotless3.125x
Perfect7.5x

Time Capsule Mutations

The Time Capsule can apply one of four special mutations to an item. After an item is placed into the Time Capsule, it rolls every 5 minutes until one of the Time Capsule mutations is selected. Only one Time Capsule mutation is applied, so treat this as a separate upgrade path rather than a normal auction mutation pool.

MutationMultiplierChance per RollFinal Chance
Cobwebbed1.2x2.5%80%
Antique2x0.5%16%
Ancient5x0.1%3.2%
Timeless12x0.025%0.8%

The total chance to receive any Time Capsule mutation on a roll is 3.125%. Since the Time Capsule keeps rolling until one of the four mutations is selected, the final chance is based on each mutation's share of that total. This is why Cobwebbed is much more common than Timeless even though all four belong to the same Time Capsule system.

Limited Passives Mutations

Limited Passive mutations can appear only when the player is wearing accessories that provide a mutation chance passive. The chance depends on the stats of the equipped accessories, but confirmed multiplier values can still be used in the calculator.

Museum Mutations

Museum mutations come from the display and gift system rather than normal item rolls. Their effects are shown for reference and stay out of calculator candidates.

Special notes

Mint is reported as 1x plus a customer tip, but the tip formula is not confirmed yet, so it is not included in the calculator selector. Acid and Caustic vary with base price, while Artifact still has a pending value. These entries, Museum effects and unobtainable Black are excluded from calculator and guesser candidates.

Calculator notes

How to use this mutation table with the calculator

Calculator results use confirmed mutation multipliers with the current Storage Hunters: Open World item value formula: base item value, automatic markup, mutation multiplier, dynamic floor, condition multiplier and grade multiplier. Fossil is included as a calculator-ready 5x mutation, while Black is listed for reference only. Unconfirmed special effects stay out of calculator candidates until their math is clear.

  • Use the item wiki to confirm the base value before applying a mutation multiplier.
  • Use the price calculator when you know the item, condition and mutation.
  • Use the mutation guesser when you only know the shelf price and want to compare likely mutation candidates.

FAQ

Storage Hunters mutations FAQ

What are mutations in Storage Hunters: Open World?

Mutations are item effects that can change item value or provide special effects. Standard, Event, Washing, Time Capsule, Limited Passive and Museum mutations each have their own source and rules.

Which Storage Hunters: Open World mutations can be used in the calculator?

The calculator uses mutations with confirmed fixed numeric multipliers. Mint, Acid, Caustic, Showcased and Artifact are listed for reference because their formulas are unknown, variable, pending or effect-only.

Do event mutations work the same as standard mutations?

Event mutations use normal multiplier values after they are obtained, but their availability depends on matching events such as Rain, Moonlit, Sandstorm or Alien Invasion.

Why are Time Capsule mutations listed separately?

Time Capsule mutations have special roll behavior and final-chance math, so they are separated from normal mutation pools to avoid confusing them with standard auction mutations.

What is the Fossil mutation in Storage Hunters: Open World?

Fossil is a 5x Limited Passive mutation. It is tied to accessories with mutation chance passives, so its chance depends on the equipped accessory stats.
